Co-work, Collaborate, Connect, and Create at the GEARS Center.

Entrepreneurs, innovators, remote workers, freelancers, independent contractors, tech workers, small businesses, and others seeking a state-of-the-art work environment have a resource in Marathon County since April 1, 2019 - the GEARS Center powered by MCDEVCO.

This facility can be used as a regional training and support center for the development and demonstration of innovative solutions.

The GEARS Mission

  • G stands for growth.

    We promote evolution and change for the future county and municipal partnerships in order to align strategic priorities. We foster creativity in an innovative atmosphere, adopt new technologies and emerging industries, and strive to create a skilled and flexible workforce.

  • E stands for entrepreneurs.

    We invest in business development and create an infrastructure for economic growth. Our goal is to create a community of entrepreneurs and empower them to learn and grow. Entrepreneurs can receive financial help through GAP Financing and the Marathon County Revolving Loan Program.

  • A stands for accessible.

    The GEARS Center is a dedicated workspace surrounded by a community of like-minded entrepreneurs. Strive to provide county wide affordable, accessible, high-speed internet. Additionally, our members have access to our co-working space, IDEA Center, and community board room.

  • R stands for resources.

    The GEARS Center connects entrepreneurs with critical resources required to create, launch, and grow businesses. We foster the collaboration of human and funding resources for a common goal. Members have access to our resource library and on-site training opportunitites.

  • S stands for support.

    Members have unlimited access to professional mentors. We foster an inclusive environment that strives to pair individuals with similar backgrounds and experiences through our mentoring program. Additional support is available through programming, workshops, and seminars.

Co-Working is the Future

By 2040, forty percent of the U.S. will be self-employed as freelancers, independent contractors, and on-demand workers. Reports predict this could represent over one million workers. Per Co-working Resources, these centers became a global phenomenon around 2010, but in recent years, the industry has exploded. Co-working started in 2007 with 14 spaces. They are estimating 6,219 complexes across the U.S. by 2020.

Serving as Marathon County’s economic development partner for the past 40 years, MCDEVCO’s vision is to create the future today for our workers and entrepreneurs throughout Marathon County.
